What is the deal with this dead guy Botham Jean killed by a cop who mistakenly entered his house (drunk?) off duty? Are they trying to smear him by saying the found weed in his apartment? They only got the search warrant after he was killed? Whole thing sounds fucked.

I don't get why this is being considered a "cop shooting a black man" She was off duty, went to the wrong apartment shot him and admitted her mistake, fire her, charge her with involuntary manslaughter and be done with it. Her being a cop has nothing to do with it just as him being black or having pot in his own apartment has nothing to do with it.

I have accumulated a decent sum to invest. I have already put a good whack into p2p lending, roughly 7.5 to 9.5% returns from 3 to 5 years in Aus. Was about to drop 25k into 5 stock-market investment companies/apps to test the waters, see which one performs the best but just in the last week or so 5% drop in the market and lots of articles like this:

Finally getting back to my reply.If you're new to it, I'd consider Exchange Traded Funds. If you haven't bought them before, they're similar to mutual funds but much lower management fees. Say you're interested in getting a decent spread of the top 50 or 100 cap companies in your market or the NASDAQ or whatever as a safe investment? There are EFT's for that (and just playing the indexes is what Buffet strongly suggests anyways). Or say you're interested in some of your money being a bit more aggressively invested - maybe you're super interested in mining juniors, or Canadian medical marijuana companies (it's bitcoin 2.0 here right now except I'm staying away) - there's an EFT for that too, packed with the top stocks from that sector picked by professional companies like iShares or Vanguard and again with much lower management fees than mutual funds.
If you want to just pick your favorite stocks that's great, but EFT's are a very solid way to spread your money out and far less time consuming. It's much easier to research one EFT, pick a few sectors and buy them like you would a traditional stock.
Even better I thinking to pay a small commission to have an expert invest in the EFT's for me. But I get to read the investment reports and learn that way. Agree that mutual funds are a rip-off! I am happy to pay .25% to .75%
This is all academic, of course. House prices are falling here, interest rates going up. I am going to wait a little longer.

Stocks always fluctuate. You just have to know the company and watch the prices. Get in on well-established companies that are gonna be around for a while, that have a lot to offer, and when their stock prices goes lower than usual, buy their stocks. Keep buying when the prices go low. Look at it as a sale. It's better to buy shit when it's on sale, right? When stock prices dip, no matter how small the dip is, it's a sale. Eventually, stock prices will tank, it's the nature of the beast... but it's just another sale. Good companies will eventually rebound, so don't worry about losing money... if you're in with a good company over the long term. You're not day/swing trading here. You're not worried about prices moving one or two cents in either direction in any given hour. You're just worried about the health of the company, its future, and what services and products they have to offer to their customers that will keep people or other companies buying their shit. Simple.
