Well that was interesting. There was one "position" on the ballot that had no candidates, just a write-in mark. I looked all around the voting area to see if there was a list of qualified write-in candidates and couldn't find any for the "position". I ask the voting attendants and they told me that if it's not up on the wall with all of the info, then there probably isn't any. There wasn't, I checked twice. I come home and look up the qualified candidates on the GA Secretary of State website and can't find anything regarding write-in candidates for this one "position". And it doesn't look like anyone's filled this "position" for years. There is a political position that's been open in my county for ages and no one's filling it. So there must be some stuff that's not getting done here.

I did a little more checking. It's a conservation supervisor position for a water and soil conservation "district". There are 2 supervisors: 1 that's elected for 4 years, and 1 that is appointed by the secretary of state for 2 years. There are 40 districts in the state. My district consists of 8 counties, and they're not small counties. We're talking practically a quarter of southeastern Georgia. That's a lot of area to cover. It's a volunteer position, so anyone who's taking it is probably not getting paid. No wonder why it's been vacant for so long.

It's not that easy. I was reading up on how to become a write-in candidate on the Secretary of State website and you have to do several things by certain dates to qualify. So you just can't write somebody's name in, at least not in Georgia.
