As I started into the intersection, I realize the car in the near lane of cross traffic isn't stopping. I jammed my leg into the brake hard, then he did. All I could do is watch as the ABS kicked in and his car quickly shuddered to a halt about 8 inches from my fender. If I was ~4 feet further into the intersection and he didn't stop, I would have been t-boned in the drivers' side door. Yup, the state of Colorado charges you an annual ownership tax that is part of your registration. It's based on the value of your vehicle. It was over $500 the first year I had it right after I bought it.

Yup, and the more expensive your vehicle, the higher the ownership tax. My boss bought a new truck earlier this year to use for both personal and the shop. Ford F-250, nice truck, and the registration fee was almost $1200.
