Why do guitar scale books always call the minor pentatonic scale the "blues" scale? It's not. The "blues" scale is an altered minor pentatonic; it has the flat fifth note added in. That flat fifth, or the "blues" note, is essential to the scale sounding "bluesy", hence the name the "blues" scale. Subsequently, the "blues" scale is a 6-tone scale, the minor pentatonic plus the flat 5th (the "blues" note), while the minor pentatonic scale is just the 5-tone scale that the 6-tone "blues" scale is derived from.
