So the semi driver of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash plead guilty to all counts yesterday. (16 dead, 13 injured)
He ran a highway stop sign with flashing lights around 5pm on a clear day, all points of the intersection were visible.
His employer is being charged for bypassing safety standards and that reminded me of something I was told years ago by a truck driver.
Caucasian guy worked for one of our long haul carriers. He overheard his East Indian boss instructing other East Indian drivers who were new, how to avoid regulations and cut corners. Caucasian guy had worked there for over 20 years and was torn over the decision to escalate the conversation to a district manager. He was scared it would be construed as a racist thing because he had history with that particular boss. He never did make the complaint.
The Humboldt crash was brutal. The bus carrying the hockey players broadsided the semi truck at 60 mph. There was no front end left on the bus and the semi had minor damage.
