The unemployment numbers are bullshit. U3 is 3.9%. U6 is 7.6%. That's a 1.95 multiple.
12/09 was peak unemployment. U3 9.9, U6 17.1. A 1.73 multiple.
And what has happened in that 9 year period? The gig economy. Gig workers (independent contractors) are not accounted for anywhere in the numbers. They are technically business owners at the mercy and will of large corporations.
So 7.6 excluding the millions that have been forced or self-selected out to be gig workers. Add the explosion in men completely self-selecting out to be "homemakers" - also not accounted for anywhere in the numbers.
