Exactly....send an independent appraiser out. Instead it looks like they're going to Redfin and Zillow and picking the highest value they can find because of the current market. And funny how when values go down because the market cools off that the county is in no hurry to reassess the property values then.

Shit! Here I think they do it every 5 years, and it gives you clear instructions on how to dispute the new value if you think it's too high.

House I'm in was appraised at 543k this year. There's no way we could get that in a sale because the home is over 60 years old with a lot of the original fixtures that are either broken or ready to go.Got a nice little notice in the mail from the county yesterday. I called the city and asked how they determine the worth of a house without ever seeing inside. There could be no walls or bathroom fixtures...of course the city person said size of lot, location, calculation is based on other similar homes, yada yada yada.
Our housing market is in such a deep recession people can't move. They list their homes for a year to 18 months and most sellers are dropping their asking price by 15-20% to get a sale.
Like you Lance our yearly house taxes are going to be brutal this year
