My home county just banned single use plastic bags starting nov 1st. A lot of people are applauding this.
While I'd love to see everyone waste less and not pollute at all, I don't agree with this. I think it's excessive to ban something just so people can feel better about themselves while in reality accomplishing almost nothing.
I didn't have any real evidence to back up my theory that banning bags will have a near zero impact on overall plastic pollution coming from the US until I just ran across this article.
Turns out that 88-95% of the plastic pollution in the oceans comes from the top ten highest content rivers, all 10 are in Asia or Africa. Plus I'm sure at least a few more percentage points can be added for big events like tidal waves, hurricanes, etc that drag a bunch more off land and into the sea. So basically my life is going to be less convenient so we can do almost nothing to "save the planet".

The city of Boulder has banned them here and I think the city of Denver has talked about it. I agree, it's just a feel good thing, like all the cities banning plastic straws
Besides, those bags are what I use for dog poop containment when I clean the back yard

I wonder what it's like to be a slice of cheese?
Father to many, married to none
And in case you're unaware I carry a gun
Stepped into the party, the place was over packed
Saw the kid that dissed my home boy and shot him in the back
I had to get a beeper 'cause my phone is tapped
You better keep your mouth shut 'cause I'm fully strapped
I got money in the bank, I can still get high
That's why your girlfriend thinks that I'm so fly
I've got money and juice, twin sisters in my bed
Their father had Aids so I shot him in the head
