I've considered on multiple occasions moving to northwest Georgia. I prefer mountains to the coast anyway. It's just not feasible right now.
Generally speaking, if you look at the east coast of the US and go all the way down an east coast map and find the part of the coast line that's furthest in compared to the rest of the coast line, that's where I'm at. That offers us some protection from hurricanes as they generally don't come straight in at our latitude. Because of weather systems, storms usually move up the coastline in my general area in a curved fashion. In addition to our position on the coast line, we have barrier islands that protect the coast too. Subsequently, we usually only get glancing blows from outer wind bands of the storms. If we see any eyewall action, the storm has to travel over land to get to us, and that weakens storms significantly. In short, my location is usually really fucking lucky every year. The Carolinas and Florida always get torn up and we rarely see damage.
Where I'm at, I don't worry much about flooding. I'm a bit inland and I'm on higher ground comparatively speaking when considering the rest of the county. I suppose it could happen if it rained torrentially for several days, but it barely ever rains that much. I mean it would have to be like The Great Flood. Granted, I am in the southeastern most county in Georgia, but the barrier islands usually bare the brunt of any coastal flooding.
Pine trees are a consideration because they're shallow rooted. High winds can blow them over into a house really easily. Oak trees are deeper and stronger so they're better to have around than the pines. As long as there's nothing left out on people's lawns, then the only debris I'd be concerned about is that coming from foliage and that type of stuff. Houses are generally built to withstand hurricanes up to Category 3 so the only major damage I'd be concerned about is roofing tiles being blown off the house. I've never heard of anyone's windows being blown out. Home builders take their construction seriously down here.
Electricity and water would be a consideration. It seems like the water company's a joke around here. The water cuts off for an hour for no reason, and then we have a boil warning for 3 days after. It was better before I moved and was on a well. I could always just stock up on water throughout the year to be prepared for hurricane season. Electricity will go out too, but I could cook on a charcoal grill if it came to that. What I really need is one of those whole house generators that kick on when the power goes out, if I really wanted to mitigate that issue. But those are kind of ridiculously expensive.

Weird about the windows. News report said those were the first to go usually.
I saw something that said there was a city in Florida that rarely gets hit by hurricanes. I think it may have been Orlando
Orlando's in the dead center of the peninsula of Florida. Hurricanes have to travel over land to get to it. It'll get hit, but generally it won't suffer as much damage as the coastal towns do. Most hurricanes will span Florida, except for the panhandle. So when we're talking Florida hits, either it's hitting the main peninsula or it's hitting the panhandle. A hurricane will generally hit one or the other, but not both.

My local Walmart's locked down. The police are there. I wonder who went insane over them being sold out of everything.
I can't find any news online about it.

I don't know if anybody actually went insane, I was just making an assumption jokingly. For all I know, it could've been anything. Maybe a mother of 10 kids by 5 dads went insane and killed her kids. Maybe a dude decided to go streaking in the packed store. Maybe some moron brought a cougar to the party and it went berserk. It could be anything.

I need a leftist to educate me on why they consider the conservatives insane. As far as I can tell, it's mostly just indifference to their delusions.
