I use to love going to the races. Back when Oaklawn had like a 65 day race window, the basic bets were win/place/show plus the daily double. Exotic betting was years down the road.
When I was a senior in high school I had watched a horse through her training and on into the season. Derby week was approaching and she was entered into the second race. I wanted to be there for the race so my dad sent a note with me for school. The vice principal being use to such shenanigans told me he would have to verify the legitimacy of my note. I gave him the number to the track security booth and told him if he called within the next half hour he should get my dad, past that was questionable. After reluctant confirmation he told me my absence would not be excused to which I informed him with my grades and track record that was a mute point.
I forget where I was going with this story unless it was to say I hope you have better luck at the track than I did.
