I'm not sure anyone is talking enough about what's going on with Turkey and Syria this week with all the COVID-19 news. Turkey is shit kicking Syria, making their airforce and AA look foolish... but if they go too hard, will Russia get directly involved? Turkey is a shitty ally, but part of NATO none the less. Kind of scary to think about where this proxy war goes with more and more direct Turkish and Russian intervention.

This has been going on since 2011. It's part of the Syrian Civil War. I think Russia and Turkey have a diplomatic truce of sorts, but I could be wrong about that. I think Russia knows that if they get directly involved, they'd be facing down NATO. It's a potential shit show for both sides for sure, so as long as no big dogs get involved, maybe Turkey and Syria can handle it on their own.

All good points. It has definitely been going on since 2011 as you say, and Russia and Turkey have fought a proxy war mostly (Putin claims to have no interest in direct involvement), but this week Turkey really went hot with a new major offensive against the Syrian government in retaliation for some soldiers that were killed. It's been fascinating to follow this week especially with Turkey's use of drone swarms... but it's obviously horrific for civilians (though again that part is nothing new).
