The GA statute on citizen's arrest:

A private person may arrest an offender if the offense is committed in his presence or within his immediate knowledge. If the offense is a felony and the offender is escaping or attempting to escape, a private person may arrest him upon reasonable and probable grounds of suspicion.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (who my mother used to work for) has taken over the case. The first DA, Barnhill, has recused himself after a public outcry and another DA, Durden, has taken it over.

You can read tons of pages on the web that are crying for justice, blood, claiming white privilege, yada, yada, yada... but this is what I think:

- Arbery had a criminal record, but it was years ago and irrelevant to this incident. There's no way Greg McMichael could have known about it.
- As far as I can tell, McMichael didn't directly witness Arbery committing a crime, so had no cause to follow to initiate a citizen's arrest. Even if he did, the physical altercation, if initiated by the son Travis, was illegal.
- The open carry of shotguns is legal in GA, in fact, required. It is illegal to conceal carry long guns in the state of GA. Arbery was unarmed.
- The shots from Travis's shotgun could have been an accidental discharge during the physical altercation, but then again, they could have been intentional. The shots from Greg McMichael's shotgun was intentional.
- I believe the two McMichaels ended Arbery's life without just cause, I think the video is beyond damning, and I think the current investigation will result in the two McMichaels being charged with murder, manslaughter, various crimes involving illegal detention.
- I think that if they're not charged, Southeast GA will ignite, and I might have to kill someone to defend myself and my home.
- I think that Lebron James and other talking heads should shut the fuck up, because they're not helping diffuse the situation. I think people should chill, let the GBI and DA do their jobs, and let the process do its thing.
