My company has hired an external consultant to help decide what the 'workplace of the future' looks like for us. Technically we've always had 'flexible work hours' but in practice 95% of the company still works 8-4 or 9-5.

They picked a few of us to sit with the consultants and chat about what we're looking for. The pre-reading material gave examples of company models we could point towards. Uniliver is doing 4-day work weeks (80% hours for 100% pay), another company referenced is doing 3-days in office 2 at home, and another model they showed us has gone 'remote by default' so every employee works from home unless they need to come in for meetings.

There are some other questions they're digging into but that first model intrigues me. I've read that some companies have had success with productivity going to condensed weeks. People screw around less, work happier and more engaged, take fewer sick days, etc. Obviously there are hurdles with customer-facing roles but I think there are solutions.

Seems too good to be true though so I won't hold my breath I don't think everyone is ready to let go of the 9-5/40 hour week yet (a few of our older leaders are still stunned productivity went up measurably in the pandemic with worker at home). I was chatting to my dad and he instantly scoffed. I just said "are you absolutely, 100% certain that the traditional 5 day 40 hour work week with butts in seats at an office is the panicle of workplace productivity?" He had no good answer, and neither do I, but I'd love to give some different models a go.

One day off for clean and tidy, one day off for life maintenance, one day off for rest and family time = 4 day week!

I'm in the same boat, it's probably been more than 25 years since I have worked just a 40 hour week. It's always usually between 50 and 60. Granted, I don't work as many hours as you do, but I get a LOT less time off than you do, so there's that.

I was gonna watch the ben askren jake paul fight sat, but I fell asleep - my buddies said I didnt miss anything at all, it was such a blm nicka this nicka that nicka nicka nicka fest that it was absolutely ridiculous, Snoop Dogg was absolutely cringe, the performances were all cringe, the commentators were cringe saying some shit like that qualifies to let you fuck my mother...like commentators, saying this on the fkn broadcast. Fight itself was more rigged than Mcgregor vs Mayweather, Askren was fine after that first knockdown, he's taken much worse plenty of times before - the ref literally called the fight so that everyone could jump up and have their party, Askren had no crew or anything, it was just himself sitting there. Snoop Dogg saying show me the money nigga, pay me nigga, about all this BLM reparations shit a million times over....what. the. fuck.

This week for example (remember, my work weeks is wed-tues, and I work 14days, then off 14)
I only worked 4hrs Satuday (due to some bad gas station food) yet I'm still averaging 12hrs/day this week. Last week was 99hrs. At my previous company, I worked many more days a year, but rarely more than 12hrs. My longest straight was from Jan 2nd to April 25th. I worked in 4 different countries that stretch.

now that's funny....my buddy's uncle gets his panties in a bunch when he cant park his SVO in the garage, so he's picking at me and I told him the slave is shot...we vacuumed it twice, bled it like 10 motherfuckers, yadda yadda.....so he says hell no, what do I have to do this for you now? its not leaking out the bottom, there's nothing wrong with the slave....the way me & my buddy see it, there's got to be fluid getting past something internally, because that fucker is just not holding enough pressure by any means no matter how much its been bled.

ol swayback thinks otherwise! I laughed at him and offered to buy him a 30 pack of beer if he fixes it. I dont mind, because now I dont have to spend today taking that fucker apart....last day of vacation and I didnt feel like wasting it under the truck anyway
