I chair a committee that organizes seminars for our industry. We're organizing next year's big annual conference. Two of my 8 committee members got into a heated debate about having more diverse presenters next year. One lady said we had almost entirely old white men last year, while the other was arguing that we don't find presenters based on how they look but rather their qualification (obviously they said a lot more than that, but I can't be bothered to type it all out).

I felt totally unequipped and unprepared to moderate that debate, holy shit that was awkward.

Aaaand the lady who started this debate quit the volunteer committee today. Fucking coward. Now I'll have to be the one to tell the group she quit at our next meeting? Ugh.

Way to make a regular debate an ever bigger shit show. People get in one minor disagreement and go nuclear with everything.

I feel like stepping down too. I don't need this shit smear on my career over a volunteer position that I do for the good of the industry. I'm just trying to organize interesting seminars to get people their mandatory education hours
