The cities, like most cities in the US, are largely liberal. Everywhere else is mostly conservative. There has been an influx of liberals into the state over the past decade or more due to the state government wanting to have a share of Hollywood's business. If you haven't noticed, a lot of the Marvel movies are made in and around Atlanta, as well as tv shows like the Walking Dead. The jobs in that industry are largely occupied by artsy leftists types. So while it used to be that the vote of the rest of the state could override Atlanta and Savannah, it's looking more like the two cities (plus Macon and Augusta) have an overabundance of blue voters that we may not be able to keep at bay. We're more purple now than solidly red.
