Show me the power, child
I'd like to say
That I'm down on my knees today
Yeah, it gives me the butterflies
Gives me away
'til I'm up on my feet again
Hey, I'm feelin'
Oh I'm feelin'
Outshined
Outshined
Outshined
Outshined

Wife has been on me for quite awhile to take time off and she would really like to take a vacation. Logistically it just hasn't been feasible to be away for all that long, mostly because of the dogs, especially since my dad's medical issues and then his passing. When he was living with us before the stroke, we could go away and know that he was home to take care of the dogs. But with him gone and with the kid in school, it just didn't work out. And the timing with work never seemed to work out. So finally, with the kid graduating here in just a few more weeks and no sign that she will be moving out terribly soon, looking in to scheduling a vacation this late summer/early fall.

Any ideas on where you would like to go?
She's never been out of the country so I wanted to look into doing something like that so I did some research into some trips to Europe. Surprisingly, prices are pretty cheap, so I came up with 6 choices and then asked her to narrow them down. I gave her the choices of Rome, Budapest, Bucharest, Helsinki, Athens, and Reykjavik. She narrowed it down in order of her preference to: Reykjavik, Athens, and Helsinki.

I was lucky enough to go to Europe 3 times when one of my buddies from back in high school way back in the day was stationed in Holland when he was in the Air Force. Of the list I gave the wife, the only one I have been to was Rome. I wanted to try and pick places that wouldn't be overly tourist-y (although Rome and Athens most likely would be). I didn't ask the wife her thoughts on Paris (I've been there) or England (haven't been, but I do want to some day).
Do y'all need to get passports? If so, you may want to jump on doing that now. I think the wait times have increased significantly since before Covid.

The department of state website is saying that the processing time is 8 - 11 weeks. Yes, I know you said September, and yes, I know it's May, but as a professional procrastinator, I know all too well how time and deadlines can just slip right past you.

I didn't think getting an appointment to get a passport would be such a pain in the ass I was starting to get worried because nowhere nearby had any appointments until mid-July at the earliest. Luckily a Post Office in a small suburb about 15 miles away has appointments this month, so I went ahead and scheduled it. It's in the middle of the day so both the wife and I will have to take time off work to do it, but it was basically the only option available. I think even if the vacation doesn't happen this year, I'll go ahead and get the passports done regardless just so we have them.
