I'm just up doom scrolling twitter... it looks like Kelowna, BC is in deep, deep shit. Wildfire is consuming the westbank of town across the lake from the main city, and in the last 50 minutes there are photos and reports of the fire jumping the lake and quickly growing to 10 hectares just north of the main city (of about 130K). Really scary shit, it's been almost 40 degrees c (104f) and windy, it's a tinderbox. There was a bad fire there in 2003 that destroyed ~250 homes, I really hope this doesn't turn out nearly that bad.

Back from Toronto again.... myself, 2 VP's and the COO made a pitch for what would've been our largest deal in company history, to our largest existing client. We worked so hard on it for a month flat out, coordinated with every department of the company to bring it together and made it to the in-person round of the pitch this week. I truly thought we'd put together the winning bid. We attacked it from every direction, had a great proposition for the client from marketing to pricing, threw in all sorts of other creative value-adds.

Got the call today at the airport on the way home that they have two issues with us as a company that we just can't solve for easily, being a smaller market - we offered solutions that would work for both those items, but other markets have the edge which just make them slightly easier to work with.

Winning this thing would've saved our results for the year, guaranteed a bonus for everyone in the company, and selfishly would've made me look like a hero being the relationship manager. They're still considering letting us join the winning market for a chunk of the bid, but it feels like kissing your cousin just getting a half assed tie. Meeting internally tomorrow to decide if we accept that or stand firm so I won't sleep tonight trying to decide my recommendation.

Definitely the biggest disappointment of my career. Really thought we had done our very best and are still going to come up just short. Fuck. What an incredible bummer. I need a vacation.

Haven't won it yet, looks like we might split it with a competitor which is actually an ok outcome. Removes some of the regulatory hassles we were going to have but still gets us some good new business!

It landed Cat 3 and swung close by by traveling over land. So yesterday and today was kinda hairy.

Funny thing though... I was anticipating losing power all day yesterday and part of today, but made it through without a hitch.... until 7:30 pm when everything was over and I put all of the emergency supplies away. The power went out for no damned good reason.

Won the deal. My boss sent a note to the C-suite praising myself and my colleague. Good win, probably means the entire company will get a bonus since other lines of the business are shitting the bed this year. Drinking beer and having a steak and fries for dinner. Feels real nice. I'll be fully satisfied once the deal is completely signed and delivered, but it's 99% done.
