Beautiful pix, Monk! It's hard to tell the scale... how deep is it? If that little tiny yellow thing bottom left is a drag line / shovel then that has got to be between 500 to 1000 feet deep.

Office parties must be fun
It's the old open pit at Gwalia, near Leonora Western Australia. The little yellow thing is a lighting tower stationed outside the "portal" where the mine goes underground. At present mining is taking place about 1.2 - 1.5 kms below the surface. It will probably end up well below 2 kms eventually.....
