The NSA, the mysterious and highly-secretive US intelligence agency, has begun its campaign to find future recruits – by going on Twitter.
TheNational Security Agency tweeted a cryptic message on Monday in an effort to find potential code-breaking recruits.
The tweet, which is made up of an apparently random string of letters and spaces, was initially thought to be written by a bored employee or hacker, until the NSA confirmed that it was part of their new campaign to find future employees.
As it turns out, the code set by America’s premier intelligence organisation was a fairly simple letter substitution.
The code, broken by the Daily Dot, was revealed to mean: ‘Want to know what it takes to work at NSA? Check back each Monday in May as we explore career essentials to protect our nation.’
‘NSA is known as the code makers and code breakers,’ said Marci Green Miller, a NSA spokesperson.
‘As part of our recruitment efforts to attract the best and the brightest, we will post mission related coded tweets on Mondays in the month of May.’
The NSA have turned to unusual methods of recruiting before, including attending hacker conferences to find potential employees.
