I just read the headline, but it's good satire now that I read the text.

Here's the problem with that. Say they make the minimum wage $15/hour. Does that mean that everyone already making more money will get a proportional wage increase? Of course not. So now all these people that have (in many cases) zero skills, are now going to be paid more while people with actual skills, whether from going to college or on the job training or whatever, now have their value lessened by the new minimum wage. Not to mention that nobody is going to go to McDonalds and buy a $12 Big Mac.

You know I won't argue that. Corporations used to shift the entire salary structure up annually to reflect COL and the competitive environment. I honestly haven't researched the reasons, but I have to assume that stopped. My first job out of college in 1989 paid $25,000. That's $53,400 today. What happened?

I think the last time I got an actual COL raise (and not just a merit based raise) was back in the early to mid 90's. I don't know of many places that do that any more, if any at all. My wife works for the county government and I don't think she even gets COL raises there.

Right, so if employers have failed in their responsibility, over time, that's exploitive and predatory. Who intervenes? Those of us who believe the market takes care of itself have unfortunately been proven wrong.

Don't get me started on retirement.

I believe in free markets with guard rails. Corporate greed run amock is disastrous. We have OSHA, ERISA, and Labor Laws, for a reason. Now we can argue to what extent they should wield power, but it's hard to argue for no guard rails.
