TW: rape. Bodies are not for consumption. Human beings are not objects. Dehumanizing women and femme people is how rape culture continues. When we see each other as human, not object, not other, not threat, not temptation, we treat each other with respect. The way to end rape culture is to lift up the voices of survivors. Following me is a start. @zoeboekbinder Valuing people based on their sex appeal is dehumanizing. It is not a compliment. I have been harassed, assaulted, and raped. So when someone tells me something about how I look, I don't feel confident, I feel vulnerable. I am reminded that people in bodies like mine are seen as objects for male pleasure. When I say “bodies like mine” I mean perceived or presenting as female. It doesn't actually matter if we fit the standard or not, we will be measured on the same scale - and our value based on that system only results in our dehumanization. I don't want to hear about my sex appeal or lack thereof… based on whatever man happens to be looking and handing out judgements. I reject that system that perpetuates violence by dividing us as people. I do not exist to be consumed, to be measured, to be gazed upon. I exist to be human: to be loved and to love, to feel joy and loss, to create and to laugh. I exist.
