It's because nobody want's to work. Fast food here in Denver is paying $16.50/hr and up. We've been running ads to hire new machinists and we can't get anyone to even apply.

IDK, they cant get people to go back to work, so they are paying more. I prefer businesses pay more on their own then having the government force minimum wage BS

But this is the government's fault to begin with. First, they kept handing out free money for people to stay home, with both stimulus checks and enhanced unemployment benefits to the point that people were making more money to stay home on unemployment than they were getting paid at their jobs. And so now everyone thinks they are 'worth' $20/hour to push buttons on a cash register or to flip burgers. Remember when the whole thing was "$15/hour is a living wage"? Now they want more than that because businesses paying "only" $15/hr can't get employees.

It's going to get worse before it gets better.

All I'm saying is its basic economics, supply and demand. Of course I dont think handing food out a drive thru window is worth $20 and hour, but if nobody will do the job, what are you going to do...close?

I just said at dinner Sunday, if the lazy get hand outs and everyone else thinks they can be a social media star and get rich easy, how on earth will we convince people to enter the trades?

People's sense of reality seems all fucked up.

I really need to speak to my boss about getting a pay hike up to at least $100/hr. I think that's more than fair considering my skill/work level is at least 20x that of an entry level fast food worker.
