Some coon asses (cajun) like to rub steaks with mustard (french's) before cooking them. I'll admit, I thought this was blasphemy, but after trying some, pretty good for a change.
the whole point of my offshoot discussion is bbq'ed or grilled vs fried steak
what you put on before or after isn't the issue...
straight up Kevin if you have the choice - Grilled or pan fried steak? The choice is clear to me.
Grilled, for sure. Everything else is a poor substitute

You could have the most expensive and tender and succulent piece or prime beef that was ever known to man and you could have cooked it in the ancient ways of the long dead society that worshiped the almighty steak...and none of that will matter if you ruin it with ketchup treating it like a common hamburger.
Therefore, you lose....if you are going to ruin a good steak, who the hell cares how it's cooked? Might as well toss it in a clothes dryer at high temp if all you are gonna do is ruin it in the end.
