Dear lord.
Ok, so he compared EMG active pickups to Seymour Duncan passive ones? He's using Ola Englund's signature guitar for the test.
Personally, I'm not a fan of active pickups. You can't roll off the volume to get a clean sound without channel switching. There's a loss of dynamic control with them. Besides, it feels funny having to put a 9v battery in a guitar to get the pickups to work.
The EMG's are what Metallica's used for a while since after the Master of Puppets recording sessions. I guess that's why he's playing a whole mess of Metallica songs to test the pickups out, but they don't sound the same through his rig. He needs to play through a Mark IIc+ to get the right sound.
I think both James and Kirk have signature model pickups now with EMG. Personally, I thought they sounded better with the Seymour Duncan Invaders, which is what they were using back in the day before they switched to the EMG 81s and 85s. Oh well.

Yeah, I'm not really a fan of EMG either. I ran across the video because I was searching to see some vids other than Ola's to see what the SD solar's sound like with someone else playing. I'm really liking that guitar, esp since I saw Solar is releasing it in purple burle burst. Too bad the only place I've seen selling Solar guitars is Thoman

I just bought another guitar
My dad bought "the cheapest electric guitar on amazon" a few days ago after watching a review video on youtube and, tbf, it ain't actually bad for £60! I got the job of setting it up for him, and of course putting it through it's paces I stripped, cleaned and rebuilt my old Laney valve amp earlier in the week and got my multi-effects pedal back on the go, hours just disappeared! Been trying (to no avail) to get my old Ibanez Roadstar 2 working but it has me beat atm (my mate, the Ibanez's ex-owner, says it had water damage to the electrics and there is a fair bit of corrosion in there). I got it for free so no complaints, jst won't be able to play it until i can get it into my guy at the shop...... which is currently closed
Anyhow......... i'd always fancied a Tele, and it's one guitar i've never owned, so i started looking around and stumbled upon this video:
Just bought a 2nd hand one on ebay for £100 including delivery At that price it was pretty easy to push the button on!
