right? the individual tones arent quite all that - so one of the things I've got is a pod studio ux2, one of the things you can do there is set it up to send one (model) amp out one side and another amp out the other, and that's the best way to get a good sound with one. iirc Korg had the better distortion.
that said, I have a pedal for my distortion, because none of those fkn boxes will really do it for me. you can come close, but....I'm sort of a purist and imo its impossible to get really good heavy distortion from a multi or single pedal. the *only* reason I fell in love with the Blackstar HT Dual was that its got a real tube stage and that allowed me to put the best heavy preamp tube ever made in there, the mid 1950s Tung Sol 12AX7 with the double D getters. the HT dual was so-so until I put that tube in there, the distortion was only as good as the tube I put in there.
but that's another reason I love tube amps, because the tubes are a whole nother dimension of sound on top of your circuitry in the amp. the right tubes turns mediocre into magnificent. one other area that tubes excel over multi effects/pedals is when you go to those performance level volumes, the breakup of a tube goes on gracefully ever better whereas a pod through a solid state amp just isnt going to be as thick and juicy. you get ~60% of the way there by putting a pod into a tube power amp.
Hughes & Ketterner makes a great line of smaller tube amps, now that I think of it...

for bass I'm still using my ADA MB-1 I just put the blackstar in there so I can have true searing distortion, because the MB-1 circuitry doesnt give it even with that tung sol in there
Don't be this guy.

Just to reiterate, no guitar pedal is worth $1000, let alone $5000. I don't care how good it sounds.

Never knew "Turn the page" was a Bob Seger song until tonight Was trawling through random songs on youtube and stumbled upon it, thought it was a Metallica song Seger wrote some fucking great music by the way!

As annoying as Seger's rendition of it was...
Sorry, I fkn hate Bob Seger and Metallica died on September 27th, 1986
Got a new amp yesterday
For a while i'd been thinking about buying a low wattage valve amp since i cant really crank my 100w Laney amp at home Guy that comes into my work often is a new guitarist, came into a bit of money a year or so ago and decided to treat himself to a couple of top-end guitars and various other gear as he'd always wanted to play. Fair play to him, 50 year old and he practices daily and takes lessons! He was in our place on monday doing a job for us and, as usual, we started talking guitars - i happened to mention i was looking at getting a 5w valve amp and it so happens he had a Blackstar HT5R that he was looking to get rid of - he brought it into the work yesterday still in original box and celophane, it genuinely looked brand new, even had the plug cover on and the footswitch was still boxed. Said he'd only used it a couple of times before buying a high-end Helix and running it through headphones to avoid annoying the neighbours
Got it home last night and decided within 5 mins id take it - £150 for a £400 amp in mint condition, cant argue at that Anyone want a 100w Laney?
