Police surprise 11-year-old girl with new skateboard

ST. GEORGE An 11-year-old girl received a nice surprise after reaching out to the St. George Police Department for extra patrol in her Bloomington neighborhood when a vehicle ran over her skateboard and broke it, leaving the area without ever stopping.
The girl decided to send an email to the Police Department expressing her concerns about traffic on her street. She asked for some extra patrol and enforcement on her street to address her traffic concerns.
Hi my name is ________ and I am 11 years of age I also live on __________. One day I was skateboarding on my drive way and then I slipped and fell my skateboard rolled onto the road. And a car ran over it. That car was speeding too. And pretty much all cars on our street do. Can you please put a speed bump or patrol or street? Thanks so much.
The email was shared with the various enforcement units within the Police Department, according to a statement issued by the St. George Police Department Thursday.
A Patrol Sergeant took special note of the information and was impressed with the fact that she would take the initiative to inform us of her concerns, the statement said. He felt badly for the girl who had penned the request and took on this issue personally.
After discussing his thoughts with his supervisor, the two decided to purchase a new skateboard and helmet for the girl with their own money.
Additionally, the patrol sergeant and his supervisor personally delivered the new items to the 11-year-old and invited her to work some traffic with them.
They also gave the girl a tour of a patrol car, took her on a ride-a-long, and let her try her hand at estimating speeds and using the laser unit used for traffic enforcement.
It is great to see what passion and initiative can accomplish, the Police Department wrote in its statement.
