Video Post a video of your favorite sports moment

So today was the 6th anniversary of my favorite moment as a sports fan. To this day watching the video gives me chills.

It got me thinking, what are yours? I'd love to hear your favorite moments, and see the video of the moment if you can find it!

So this is my top moment. Forgive my extra-long story - it's 6 years TODAY and I'm feeling sentimental.

I'll set the stage. In 2003 I was at GM Place with a packed stadium when it was announced Vancouver won the bid for the 2010 Winter Olympics over Korea. We went nuts even then, 7 years early. By the 2010 games in my hometown of Vancouver it seemed the entire country was just totally on-board. New stadiums, new buildings, hell even a new HIGHWAY to Whistler where some venues were held were built. I was in University at the time, but they rescheduled Spring Break and made it two weeks instead of one just for that year. During the entire two weeks people from around the world young and old partied, high-fived, sang, drank and loved one another. Truly the time of my life. Everyone was well-behaved, it was well organized, and financially a huge success too. We were so proud of our city (a big departure from the Stanley Cup riots a year later)

On the sports side - it started rocky for Canada, with no medals for the first few days. Canada had hosted two Olympics previously but never won a Gold on our own soil, so Alex Bilodeau's gold on Day 3 was momentous. When a skeleton athlete won gold in Whistler, he walked through the streets drinking beer with fans and we lost our minds with joy. By the last day we were in the lead with Golds and even set a new record for most golds in the Winter Olympics at 14!

We can't really talk about that without Hockey though. For most of us, success was 50% based on the whole ordeal and other sports, and 50% based on winning the Men's Hockey Gold. Our hockey team was really a dream team. Crosby as Captain, Iginla and Niedermayer as Assistants, and young kids like Toews and Doughty ripping it up. It was really a picture perfect tourny. Every game after the round-robin was a nail-biter. The Americans were an incredible team too, and the match-up couldn't have been better for the Finals.

In the final game vs the US (also the final day of the Games), Canada had the lead in the 3rd but with seconds to spare the US tied it and sent the game to OT. We felt crushed and OT was almost too much to watch. And then it happened, Captain Sid scored the 'Golden Goal' to win it all and the city exploded. It really was a story-book ending to the best two weeks of sports I've ever had the privilege to experience.

Here's the moment - it seriously still gives me chills

You could actually hear the CITY erupt

Shitty sound because it's someone filming their TV, but it's all I can find on it. What more is there to say than THE CURSE IS OVER!

And of course they have won 2 more World Series titles since, but this one was the sweetest by far.

I know that feeling... when a team you love wins the first time in ages it's so special. The ones after that are great too but you always end up comparing to the first time

    Thanks for sharing

It took 18 years to get over this.

I wanted to be a Monk, but I never got the chants.

Maybe not my all-time favorite but this is my most recent. I was in college when they decided to move up to D-I and it was mostly for chance to play in the NCAA tournament. And last night that dream came true, and I can't be prouder. Now, I am realistic and now we are probably one and down, but we are dancing.

never ran away for the sake of scars!!!
