When my kid was still in middle school, I couldn't even begin to help her with her math homework when she had troubles because of that common core bullshit.

Yeah, my daughter kept telling me..."you cant do it like that, you have to show the work". So I finally had to tell her "then I cant help you, let me know if you want a tutor" Because even if we could get the correct answer, if the work wasn't done how they were teaching it, it was wrong

Exactly...we could get the answer the normal way, but I couldn't do it the common core way by showing the work, which always seemed about 4 times harder and more complicated than it needed to be. We did have to get a tutor for a few sessions because neither me nor the wife could do it 'right'. But now that she's in high school, it's back to normal math.
