I've played rugby (and know AFL is similar). There's a big difference kicking a pinned ball versus one you're holding. We call that a punt, which is generally easier to get more elevation.

If the AFL guys are making field goals from 67 yards that's still pretty good. This kid above had a low trajectory which in most NFL games would be blocked.
