    I had some different philosophies - ran with the pole vertical ( ) so I could run faster, and I only had the runup as long as it took me to reach full speed, from a walk - my first couple steps were like a bowling approach, that small - then it was a matter of letting it drop good in the bucket and driving forward once full speed gets hit. After a while doing the approach more traditionally I felt like I was peaking before the plant - one time I was just a bit off and my last step was too big and my knee sorta gave out and something similar as that happened - except I held on as the thing bent, it was so low it shot me straight back like 15 feet - landed it but of course since my feet left the ground, the vault counted. that's one of my non-injury stories
