I was just cringing through ...getting through that update

We have to retool the show, we don't have a captain, we're going to stick closer to canonical ideas

Then I just saw a site with the headline - Discovery is a one way trip, and talks about them going so far into the universe they have to live there now and anything can happen.

Which translated means - We can screw with EVERYTHING now

I have never in my life seen a TV show that has SO MUCH to draw from because of all the canon that pre-dates it, yet has no direction and swears that it's a Star Trek show but goes out of it's way any chance it can to show it's not Star Trek.

Your article started to talk about Burnham's burden and how fascinating that was and I lost interest.

You mean the burden of being the worst mass murderer in the 23rd century?

    I'm still stuck there..

Your take please Lost - the BIGGEST issue with Discovery is the writing. Every single season the fate of the entire universe hangs in the balance and only Michael Burnham can solve it. There is a fairly huge cast that, other than a couple of them, you know virtually nothing about. Hell, I couldn't tell you the names of most of the bridge crew and we're three seasons in. The writers want to focus on the HUGE thing and instead of writing and working their way towards it, they kind of just throw a bunch of nonsensical junk in between that goes absolutely nowhere and they start and stop story arcs at will that end up going nowhere and they are all solved by Burnham.

Even the original series didn't focus on Kirk this much. TNG never focused solely on Picard or Riker this much. Basically Discovery is nothing but Burnham with a few disposable cast mates thrown in that they give you no details on and they are just there to go along with Burnham the whole time. And the whole purpose of the show is to have a universe destroying issue ALWAYS looming and only Burnham can solve it.

The writing is what makes this whole show almost unwatchable.

I think you hit the nail on the head.

I actually like her character (except for the way they have her talk) and I don't mind the PC stuff, except for the elephant in the room which is to always make her dominant. I actually thought they put in a good sprinkling of other characters moreso than earlier series, but still was too dominated by her and her constant moral superiority.

Compare it with other series. For example, The Expanse: Alex goes off with Roberta. Amos goes off with Peaches. Avasar is doing her political thing. Naomi has a strong lead. Holden is still the anchor, the lead character, just like Burnham. However he's not overcooked. There's more variety and it stays a bit more fresh. The other characters are fully developed and given plenty of screen time.

I don't think it was quite as bad as you said it was, but if you don't really like Burnham the show would be unbearable.

Oh look, ANOTHER universe ending problem to deal with. Good to see the writers came up with something new for the new season.

Three weeks and one day away from the start of the final season of this train wreck.

The synopsis of the first episode of the new season from IMDB:

    S5.E1 ∙ Red Directive - Thu, Apr 4, 2024

After an 800-year-old Romulan vessel is found, Captain Burnham and the U.S.S. Discovery are sent to retrieve it. But the artifact inside is stolen, starting an epic chase. Saru is offered a lifetime position.
