I was thinking they could have made the actress who plays Burnham a Vulcan from the beginning. Forget about all of the related to Spock BS and have her as a Vulcan, like that hot chick on Enterprise. She could be the first Vulcan woman in Starfleet and they could reset all of that crap about Burnham being the Destroyer of Worlds ...and innocent Starfleet personnel
She's a person of color, a Vulcan and a woman...three demographics satisfied at once.
Because they have a large Vulcan viewership

How that guy originally died is right up there with what happened to the cool, older dykey engineer. Who knows?
The writing is so sloppy on this show I have no problem believing whatever form of test audience they used had a real issue with killing a gay character, thus the next convolution.
Viva le Convolution!

Also, did you catch where they planted the seed of 'time travel' in there? Oh goody, that probably gives them an out as to all the crap they are pulling in this series and make a different time-line, even though CBS swears that Discovery is in the same time-line as TOS, TNG, et al.
Great
The problem is shows like this are my jam. Sci-fi, associated with a long running show I love and for the most part, check your brain in at the door. Sad part is when the writing gets this bad, I may be one of the internet crowd that exclaims - I'm gonna stop watching this shite if it doesn't get better! That'll show those dumb producers!
When really the producers and the people reading that post in comment sections couldn't give a rosy rat's ass if I stop watching. Because of streaming services, DVR's, new digital networks being created, we're a long way from the Nielsen ratings making a difference anymore. From what I understand, new TV shows are presold meaning they get instant revenue without needing the old school commercial support from advertisers to create and distribute the show. Since a show like Discovery only appears on CBS All Access or where ever it's made, they don't have to rely on physical numbers of viewers being quantified and counted the night it airs. People may buy the service later this year and get season access and binge watch it.
Makes me miss the old days of a physical box being in people's homes and me being mad because 400000 strangers watched Sex and the City rather than hockey
That chick podcaster...she talks slow, is a total nerd and has a really dry sense of humor. She may not be everyone's cup of tea to listen to.
They're talking about the scene where Spock won't respond to hails and talk to Burnham. "So he Spock-blocked Burnham?"
And then they're talking about the actor being listed in the credits and hasn't appeared yet. "He's Spock-teasing us." damn
That was funny dammit
Woman nerd making Spock jokes is not privilege, it's the new world order
(newer world order)
Okay, I just saw something recently and I didn't see anything about it last season. I read people talking about Emperor Georgiou of the Terran Empire is from the same alternate reality as was seen in the TOS episode Mirror, Mirror where the transporter malfunction causes the landing parties being switched to the other universes?
Yeah that's been a plot in a few of the Star Trek series from what I understand. Nerdy podcasting chick spoke about it saying - This plot device has appeared in almost every Star Trek iteration, from TOS to Deep Space Nine. I can vaguely recall something about alternate universes in TNG and maybe Voyager, but there weren't evil duplicates like in TOS.
