When you bring up the timeline it reminds me of my first thought after the episode. So this is ten years before the original and now we find out Spock has hijacked another ship, visited the Talosians, interacted with Pike etc.... before?

I try to close my eyes and ears during the spore drive/engineering scenes. Tilly is okay, the entire idea is not.
I'm trying to remember (it's been awhile since I watched The Menagerie) but I want to say that somewhere during that episode, they make the point of saying that no Federation vessel had been to Talos IV since the Enterprise when The Cage occurred. I might be wrong though.

For me, Tilly goes back and forth from being bearable to being obnoxious as fuck.

And the whole "the Red angel showed Spock that the universe is going to end" was stupid.

I still can't get past the bridge. They talked about how the set designers were ingenious integrating old and new ideas for a fresh, new take on a Star Trek prequel.

They didn't do that. If anything, Enterprise got the closest in terms of old/new production values.

Yeah as much as I love the weekly discussions, I'm going to stop watching this train wreck.

Other than a few characters on this show, they do very little character development of any kind. Then we have the whole Airium arc this past episode and at the end, when she dies, they make t seem like this VERY sad and devastating event and they even fade out with her replaying a memory with no music and just the sound of the beach from her "favorite memory" as Tilly put it. And we're supposed to be filled with infinite sadness over all of this.

How are you supposed to feel upset or sad or anything over a character that you barely know?

I haven't watched the episode. Airium died? We just learned her name last week!

On the show Survivor, they typically have 18 or 20 people to start the game. Episodes are three day cycles with two challenges and then a vote out at the end. So there's a lot of daily interactions and things that happen with that many people and they often have to edit the show very tightly to give the viewer a sense of the week's events and why "Bill" got voted out.

What happened to Airium is called a Survivor Visibility Spike. You watch the show for a month and hear very little from Bill, sometimes forgetting he's on the show. Then all of a sudden, they show him gathering wood/lighting fires/doing well in challenges/making jokes...and it's a sure sign he's getting punted from the show that episode

It was a contrived plot where the thing infecting Airium was suddenly compelled to give the information form the Giant Dying Library Ball a few episodes back to Section 31, specifically, all the information it had learned about AI in its 100,000 years of traveling the universe. In the end, she ends up dying to keep the information from getting to Section 31.

And that sentence helps illustrate why Discovery sucks so much. I have no feelings or good memories about anything you've mentioned and last I saw they were trying to figure out Spock and the red angel.

That writer's room has ADD to the max and I'm sure they enlist completely different people each week to write whatever they want

Oh, don't worry, there was still some of the Spock and Burnham and Red Angel stuff going on as well. The episode was all over the place.

Discovery was going to Section 31 HQ anyway so that the female admiral could do something for some reason, and when they get there (it's the site of an old penal colony) it's surrounded by these 'mines' that are attracted to shielding, so they have to go in with shields down and these mines end up looking like circular saw that can slice the hull open like it was nothing. And in fact they show one of the mines slicing down the hull of the saucer section and you know what becomes of what should have been catastrophic damage?

    Absolutely nothing.
