Critiquing this show is like throwing rocks at a blind 89 year old grandma...

You almost have to hold back at times

    Too true.

If anything, since there is going to be a season 2, I just hope that the writers for the new season look at the critiques and complaints from actual Star Trek fans and do something about it. The main 'defense' I've seen from the people that seem to like the show is, that people like you and me, don't like the show because it looks too modern or we're racist because of the diversity. Those seem to be the BIG TWO arguments I've seen now.

We or I experienced a lot of division about canonical ideas when posting at the podcast place. Usually the only fight topic that's discussed. We don't get into the which series is the best sort of fights.

For me it's simple - How much is too much when writing a new series? Me and others get accused of not moving forward with the times and I often agree

There are some things that are written into television series that become the backbone of everything created after that. Especially with sci-fi.

There's a lot of connective tissue that I've never seen where a series like Deep Space 9 will reference old ideas and explain how and why things happened. I watched all of Enterprise and apparently they did that too, but I missed the references. Next Generation is known for going back and forth referencing quite a few of the series in their stories, by again I didn't catch most of them.

Well, season 2 is upon us, let's have at it

There were 2 episodes listed as out so far, but I've only seen the season premiere, my internet was fucking up and I couldn't watch the second episode.

Seems like with season 2, they are picking right back up with the suckitude of season 1.

I should have kept track...how many times was Burnham insubordinate in the premiere (including insubordinate to Capt. Pike)? It was definitely multiple times. But they treat her like she's some kind of Super Hero ffs.

From a site that was reviewing the episodes....their review of epsiode 1, season 2:

Basically the episode can be summarized as "Michael Burnham is the bestest, greatest, most skilled and indeed most physically impressive being in the universe".

    Here's another complaint

Those stupid pods they took to get down to the asteroid that the Hiawatha, why the hell do they feel the need to make this like Star Wars? Star Trek isn't Star Wars and vice versa. Absolutely stupid.

And apparently, if your Stark Industries helmet jams while in your pod and you can't eject, overriding the eject sequence remotely automatically fixes that problem

The production people said they were aware of the criticisms of the first season. All of them. To be fair to a lot of shows, especially Trek related shows, most usually take at least a season to find their footing.

So what do they do out of the gate for season 2?

Bring back a beloved canonical character and completely change his arc, storyline.

Burnham does what she wants as usual (noted by Lance).

Weird, scary, never been seen before phenomenon? Why not send out the top two officers from the ship in little breakable pods to explore? Chance of death? 85-100%

THE STUFF WITH SPOCK....oh where do I start? He's a vindictive little child who likes to scare other children he just meets? Him and Burnham have some deep, horrible secret that keeps them apart? Like what...Spock used to peep at her when she took a bath and got caught? Spock's voice is like a Force-ghost that keeps appearing in her mind?

The whole plotline is messy and they should never have soiled Spock's memory creating this fantasy he all of a sudden had a human half-sister. It's insulting to the memory.

The entire effin tardigrade/engine/yes we have a starship powered by mystical creatures and spores idea The starship actually does a quick flip before doing that insta-warp thing. The idea is dumb at best.

Yeah, not liking the Spock stuff coming out at all. As I'm sure we've mentioned before, throughout the entire Trek history, it was NEVER mentioned that he had this weird adopted sister. Not once. Not even hinted at.

The engineer that survived the Hiawatha wreck and was keeping critically injured crew members alive?

    "You're not a doctor."

"The human body is just a machine. And I read."

    Yeah, not improbable at all.

Hey man I'm still stuck on the idea of how a now high-ranking bridge officer was responsible for over 8000 deaths because she ignored direct orders from a superior

I also was reading a review by someone that loves the show that was thrilled to see Lt. Jackass (whoever he was that showed up instead of Spock) get killed while he was 'mansplaining' (reviewer's word, not mine) to Burnham about how he knew what he was doing in that pod.

From the beginning of the episode....do the people that write for the show know that Cassini launched in 1997, not 1953?

Yeah they made that guy unlikable and I thought - oh, a new color for redshirts...guys who are nasty to Burnham

You reminded me of something. Remember that huge plot last season about the bearded guy who was really a Klingon underneath because they had changed his entire skeletal and organ system, then mystically transplanted a Klingon mind/soul into him?

What happen to that guy? Not a word about him in two episodes this season.
