It's a republic. A federal constitutional republic. We elect our Representatives and Senators democratically, as well as our local and state officials, but that's where the democratic nature of our system ends. History teaches that a true democracy can not exist for very long, and the founding fathers of this nation knew that. That's why they set the system of government up the way they did. Exactly! Trump was already in a position to forgo a salary whereas Obama probably wasn't.... he made his money on a talk circuit after his presidency.
