Teenage F4 driver Billy Monger loses legs after horrific crash at Donington Park

Teenage driver Billy Monger has lost both of his lower legs after a horrific crash during a Formula 4 race at Donington Park on Sunday.
The 17-year-old suffered severe leg injuries after running into the back of Patrik Pasma’s car in a crash which was broadcast on TV as part of race coverage.
The Formula Four British Championship race was stopped while an air ambulance was flown on to the track to take the teenager to hospital.
Billy was trapped in the car while conscious for over an hour after the crash while medics worked to free him.
Pasma was also taken to hospital however he was not thought to be seriously hurt. Onlookers described the crash as ‘horrific’ and ‘one of the worst I’ve seen.’
A fundraising page has since been set up to help the teenager learn to live with his life-changing injuries.
Set up on behalf of his family it read: ‘Billy is a complete one off, a cracking young man with a spark that makes it impossible for anyone not to like him. Full of spirit, Billy is one of those people that instantly lights up a room.
‘His positive, plucky outlook on life is not only hugely endearing but also incredibly inspirational and it’s phenomenal to see how respected and loved Billy is.
‘Having always been a fighter Billy has already overcome big hurdles in his career – struggling for budget Billy has fought his way into top flight Motorsport, however, we now need your kindness and support to help give Billy and his family the best chance to fight these injuries that will affect Billy’s life so massively.’
