    Nice truck, YT!

I think I'm going to have to do the unthinkable...sell my car. The ignition switch just died and the part to replace the cylinder was - get this - $400! Even if I went to dodgy websites and looked at that angle, it was in the high $300 range. I'm afraid 1992 Nissan parts are virtually unobtainable now. I've babied it all of its life but I just can't afford to fix it anymore if anything goes wrong. Now that it's all fixed up, I guess I'll have to sell.

If I were a single guy and had money to lavish on it, that'd be OK but still. I remember the first set of tires I put on it - Dunlop D40 M2s - 195/55R14's and they nearly cost me $600 for 4 of them back in the day.

I hate debt, too, but will probably have to go back into it (I just paid off all my credit cards 2 months ago!) All I have for debt is the house...sigh.

So, hopefully I'll get $2000 for my car and I'll look at something for about 10K (figured if I went any lower it'd be a major fixer-upper). Would like to have a classic car but need the reliability of a newer vehicle.

Thanks! Have you looked into Junkyards or u Pull it yards for a steering column for your car? Just a suggestion. What is the problem with the switch? Maybe you can add a start button to it?

Definitely yes, but they had cars that had 200-450K (!) on them. Believe me, I'm on a first name basis with the junkyarsds around here!

The switch has a button you press to allow you to turn the key - it wouldn't press in anymore. I fixed it once because I saw the broken part that had to engage and release the keys. Tried to do the same thing again 4 days later, but it didn't work.

Well, Sunday I went and took a good look at the old truck. (Pics too) The rust is much worse than I remember. Definitely NOT gonna be restoring that cab. Waiting to hear back from the DMV on the legality of putting a different cab on it.

my current project car is my current daily driver, although nothing major has been done to it yet besides some tints on the back it will one day get a full work over. ultimatley i want to turn it into a Colin McRae replica rally car and take it to shows and stuff, i know it might sound a little sad/geeky but i've always wanted to do something like it.

i despise the though of turning it into a 'boy racer' cruiser, or to you guys in the USA a 'ricer'. i cant think of anything worse than chucking massive alloys on it, lowering it beyond driveablity, putting a massive fart can on for an exhaust and then just driving it round and round my local tesco blearing some shitty ass music out of it!!

You know, I've never had a car that had much more than the factory stereo system/upgraded speakers, but EVERY car I've ever put my grubby little paws on had a decent cam and exhaust on it...hahahaha

I don't plan on doing any exhaust work to the CSRT4, as a most definitely DON'T want it to sound like a ricer. The CSRT4 to me is kinda like a fat girl..fun to ride, but you really don't want your buds to see you with it...

the difference in the mods you made to your cars and the ones the ricers round my way do is that you put DECENT exhaust on them, the ricers round here open up a tuner booklet and pick out the largest back box they can find and slap it on, so makes no real improvments to the car as a quality exhaust system would

This is precisely what my 99 Camaro sounded like though it's all back to stock now except for the cat back:

Yeah, that's the rub isn't it? To me a 5.7 ltr isn't all that big. I remember when I was in the Congo, one of the guys I was working with was from London. He got a chance to drive the company truck there (F250 Ford with the 6 something liter gas/petrol engine....He came back all "Holy hell that thing has torque!!" I didn't really understand what he meant 'till the first time I drove a modern 4 cyl

Yeah, to me a 5.7 isn't that big..I grew up driving 350ci/5.7 motored vehicles, so. I'm still not totally sold on the fact that 4 cyl are "more" fuel efficient than 8 cyl. My 99 Z28, with the stock 5.7 LS1, and an auto matic 4 speed got 29-30 mpg on the highway. The CSRT4 has a turbo 2.5 4 cyl, with a 6 speed manual, and only gets 30-32 mpg on the highway.
