I also was never "offended" by anything in that thread, annoyed sometimes when it was deliberate lies and misrepresentations being posted.
I think the biggest difference is although you have endured a lifetime of people bashing Canada, you are not currently overwhelmed by it. Every hour, every day, every radio station, news channel, TV show, social media, work, with my friends, family etc, etc. It's all Trump did this, Trump did that. Much of which (not all) is bullshit. EVERY word that comes out of his mouth is twisted around by the media and turned into an attack piece. Most TV stations have not reported one single positive thing he has said or done in more two years. What used to be called news is now nothing more than a reality TV show only concerned about stampeding to better ratings, regardless of who they trample in the process. (Look into the current story of the Kid and the Native American, perfect example).
So long story short, I feel it's not so much us feeling personally attacked, it's more just totally fed up with it all in general. So forgive me (us) if we can get a bit touchy on the subject from time to time.

The main point i was trying to make is that Monk knows fine well that all those Trump posts annoy our US friends here....... so why do it? What can you possibly gain from it?
Ive posted Trump memes that i find funny, but i dont go out of my way to source anti-Trump stuff on a daily basis whereas it seems to be an unhealthy obsession with Monk. Be interesting to find out what percentage of his posts in the past year have related to Trump and the US if im being honest.........
We've all had fall-outs here, we've all done/said/typed things that piss people off in the extreme........ overall though most arguments can be put to bed when us adults realise we're only hurting our friends here, apologise and/or change our tact, and ultimately that's what this place is all about - friendship.
The Trump stuff doesnt really bother me much tbh although i do find it quite boring and tedious, its the same shit, different day. I do however see how much it annoys and affects our US bretherin, and as such i dont really say much on the subject, ie, i self-police myself because i don't want to hurt the feelings of my friends.
Truth is i know more about some of you guys than a lot of my real life friends, we're all in contact here on a regular basis and we share many details of our lives with each other regularly....... and i love that we can do that in relative safety from prying eyes.
Take yourself for instance Hal, i know what you've been going through these last few years and i can only imagine how tough it's been for you at times. I sent you quite a few emails while you were away from here just to check up on you as any friend should, and i hope our little chats helped in a small way
Anyway, im starting to ramble now - im sure you all get the gist of what im saying

When Americans dare venture down under it can take some time to adjust to the harsh environment

Next time you Aussies complain about the heat consider this. -22F is -30C and I've just enjoyed over two weeks of that and worse at night.
A person can walk two miles in under 30 minutes. Yes 40C will make you sweaty and uncomfortable, but you won't die spending an hour in it
