Australians that are able to trace their ancestry to an original convict are very proud of that fact. I also believe Britain still has more convicts at home than were ever sent here. Australia was settled with convicts because the previous place to deport them was America and George lost that option in 1776.

I watched the Australian version of Survivor. They take the castaways to an island in Samoa to play and all of them are like - Oooooh look at the beach and the trees....it's soooo warm and beautiful here.

Yet all of them come from places in southeastern Australia on the coasts...where there are beaches and nice trees and warmth
