Busted Ex-substitute teacher is charged for having sex with student

    KY3.com Staff

MONETT, Mo. (KY3) -- An-ex substitute teacher at Monett schools faces four charges of having sexual contact with a 17-year-old student. The Lawrence County prosecuting attorney charged Loryn Barclay, 24, of Washburn, on Friday and she was arrested on Sunday night. The Barry County prosecuting attorney filed charges on Monday.

The charges in Lawrence County are for two instances of oral sex with the student. The charges in Barry County are for two instances of sexual intercourse. The student said “he had a sexual relationship with Loryn Barclay and they had sexual intercourse and oral sex on several occasions between November 2016 thru January 2017,” according to the probable cause statement used as the basis of the charges against her.

The investigation started after an anonymous source told the Monett Police Department about the relationship on April 27. A detective interviewed the student on May 3 and Barclay on May 4, according to the probable cause statement.

The student told the detective that the oral sex occurred in a vehicle at Monett’s North Park, which is in Lawrence County, and that they had intercourse at his family’s home in south Monett, which is in Barry County.

The probable cause statement says Barclay admitted she “had an inappropriate relationship” with the student. She admitted having intercourse on two days at his home and performing oral sex on him at the park. She said it happened in November and December.

The Monett superintendent says Barclay worked as a substitute teacher last year. He says administrators had no idea it happened at all. The detective wrote in the probable cause statement that he spoke to Monett High School Principal David Williams, who wanted the police department and prosecutor to pursue charges against her.

A judge set Barclay's at $25,000, which she posted on Monday morning after her first court appearance in Mount Vernon. Her next court appearance in Lawrence County is scheduled for July 24. She has not yet appeared in court in Barry County, where her bond is set at $10,000.
