And trust the people in the chain? The mail people, the receivers, the sorters, the talliers? Too many people in the chain. Too many chances to usurp the process. If it was completely digital and we could do it at home, but then again, coders can be biased too.

Yeah, my utopian thoughts often run into logistical brick walls

One year I didn't vote because it was blizzarding out and the roads were horrible. I only had to go to a school in my neighborhood.

We just had a civic election and there were so many spammy recorded phone messages, like 10 a day from various candidates, I didn't vote out of sheer spite.

My Representative calls the house every once in a while with recorded messages. I stopped answering because if he can't talk to me personally, then fuck him and his PAC... but I still vote for the bastard.

Current mayor did his own messages and starts with - Hey this is mayor ____. Yeah I know, not another recorded message about the mayoralty race...

And I try hanging up before I hear his name

I actually think the best thing would be to go out and speak to your black friends and ask them.

I think most of this stuff is psychological. The fear of whites further repressing blacks and the fear of blacks becoming 'dangerous'. I think it's more dangerous to repress this stuff, and better anger than rage. Perhaps this whole unpleasant churning process (with extremes that get magnified by the media) has to happen. We're seeing the backlash now, right, with the Trump administration hitting back as a proxy from competent whites (more or less) who are hitting back because they can endure no more. I think it's part of an angry cycle that will oscillate for a while. Peace and respect needs an honest secure foundation, doesn't work with hidden resentments.

Those articles are interesting, thanks, but neither answers the question posed about levels of racial tension. Obama tried to use more government funded programs to provide more direct assistance versus Trump trying to change the overall economic structure for long term benefit. I would squarely support the latter as the right answer. At least the pro-Obama article admits that the expansion of health insurance was not "the Obamacare marketplace" as we hear over and over, but an expansion of the government social welfare program medicaid.

I can't argue your point on the vacillating tensions but let me add something. The black community will take no ZERO responsibility for fixing their issues (there are admittedly a few voices, but largely ignored). They simply don't have a problem, sans systemic racism. Um. Okay? That ends the conversation for me. Full stop. If you want to negotiate, okay, but screeching demands almost always meet deaf ears. And they have.

Maybe give your fingerprint on the ballot, drop it in the mailbox?

Colorado is a mail-in ballot state. You can still go and stand in line at the polls like it's 1984 still or you can drop your ballot in the mail or at any number of ballot collection boxes in your precinct. I haven't physically gone to vote at a polling station in many years.
