Stupid 'Hot Coil Challenge' shows how foolish people can be

Matt Sterner - ABC 15 Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. - Just when you thought these so-called internet challenges couldn't get any more dangerous, a new online trend is gaining some popularity.

The internet was introduced to the "Hot Coil Challenge" recently, and it's got many people worried about the human race.

    It's just like it sounds.

People are turning on the stove, getting the coils hot, and then putting their arm or other limbs on the stove as long as they can.

Some are posting their video to YouTube, while other are posting videos encouraging the viewer to not try it - which gives us some hope.

If you'd like to view the full video see below, but beware, viewer discretion is advised.

We're still in the immediate aftermath of the dangerous "Tide Pod Challenge," which YouTube has worked hard to take down the videos from their website.

Let's just hope this trend ends quicker than the last, and people resort back to safer activities, like knitting or putting together a jigsaw puzzle.

Why not just skip the maiming and go straight to the 'drink the battery acid from your car's battery challenge'? Or maybe the 'drink the drain cleaner from under the sink challenge'?

Because they want to live to repeatedly click refresh to see the "hits" and "likes". That's is the new measure of social worth, regardless of the reason.

I wanted to be a Monk, but I never got the chants.

So I had a friend years ago we'll call Tony (because that's his name).

He was a little younger than our regular group of friends and what we called an old soul. He loved old 60's music, clothes, ideals of the time etc...

He would do things like put a cigarette out on the palm of his hand for effect, and other attention grabbing events.

One night we were hot knifing (look it up if you're not familiar) and he kept grabbing the knife and saying he was going to burn Led Zeppelin into his arm.

He made it through the first L

Time goes by, I see him somewhere else and he still had the huge L scar on his forearm. I wonder who many times he had to explain it?

The fucking guy was at Woodstock. He kept telling us that he was there in '69 and we said - Ya sure you were. I meet his divorced father one day and father says - Did you know he was at Woodstock?

He was born Jan/1969 and was around six months old when his mother and I took him there. We have a few pictures...

    It explained so much

We had a fire in his backyard one night. Without warning he jumps up, takes off all of his clothes except underwear, and starts doing an Indian wardance around the fire.

We're like - Hey Tony, it's only about 15 degrees out...are you okay?

Tony - Jim Morrison did this and people loved it!
Me - Yeah but you're not good looking, can't sing worth shit and no one here is on acid.

Maybe the people that work in auto shops can help me out here..

In high school auto shop class, we had this old machine with a hole in it that would clean spark plugs...with sand maybe?

We discovered there was quite a healthy electrical charge from the hole so we had contests to see who could stick their finger in longest.
