‘Frozen’ Director Open To Making Elsa A Lesbian In Sequel

One of Disney’s most popular characters may be poised to come out as lesbian in the upcoming sequel to the wildly popular animated film “Frozen.”
The original 2013 children’s movie inspired a progressive movement after people in the LGBTQ community picked out subtle details and made them fit their own agenda. For instance, many believe the feature song “Let It Go” was intended to be a “coming-out anthem” of sorts instead of a simple turning point for the main character, Princess Elsa, in the children’s fantasy film.
Rather than deny the LGBTQ undertones, writer and co-director Jennifer Lee has welcomed the dialogue and seems open to having Elsa experience a coming-out in “Frozen 2.”
“I love everything people are saying [and] people are thinking about with our film ― that it’s creating dialogue, that Elsa is this wonderful character that speaks to so many people,” Lee told the HuffPost. “It means the world to us that we’re part of these conversations.”
She then added that the dialogue has leaked into the creation process and may have an influence on the upcoming sequel.
“Where we’re going with it, we have tons of conversations about it, and we’re really conscientious about these things,” Lee added. “For me … Elsa’s every day telling me where she needs to go, and she’ll continue to tell us. I always write from character-out, and where Elsa is and what Elsa’s doing in her life, she’s telling me every day. We’ll see where we go.”
