Britain Meghan Markle will have to change the way she eats when she joins the royal family

By Zoe Forsey, Social Audience Writer - The Mirror

Meghan Markle is undergoing extensive training as she prepares to become a member of our royal family.

She's learning the correct etiquette, protocol and posture , and Prince Harry is even teaching her how to drive on the right side of the road .

But there's another big thing she'll need to master before she walks up the aisle in May - how to use her cutlery.

Apparently there's a 'proper' way to do it, and we expect she - like most of us - hasn't been doing it correctly.

Apparently one should never use the fork to scoop food up.

Instead the knife should be used to push food onto the back of the fork, and it should be eaten for there.

This is obviously rather difficult for some foods, such as peas, but the Debretts website has a way around the problem.

It states: "It may be necessary to use mashed potato to make peas stick to the fork but it is incorrect to turn the fork over and scoop."

But that's not all, and there are some other cutlery rules Meghan will have to follow.

One is pretty obvious - only the fork and spoon should go in the mouth. That means no stabbing stuff with the knife and going straight in, and definitely no licking.

There are some foods that should only be eaten with a fork, including pasta and some types of fish.

You should never hold your knife like a pen, but instead the handle should lie in the palm of the hand secured by the thumb and index finger.

It's also considered extremely rude to ask for a steak knife if you're at someone's house for dinner as it suggests the meat is too tough, but it's acceptable if you're in a restaurant.

There's 16 of these videos. I was taught this junk when I was a little kid, but I've never been held to it. Subsequently, I've let it go. I suppose if I came from money, I'd know it like the back of my hand.

Try growing up in a British household. I learnt all this and do it naturally.

Seriously? Do you switch hands or keep the fork in your left? Aside from playing guitar, I'm so completely uncoordinated with my left hand that I'd probably end up stabbing myself in the eye with my fork if I held to proper dining etiquette.
