Rumor 'Zombieland 2' Likely to Come in 2019 With Original Cast Returning

    Ace Showbiz

AceShowbiz - Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are ready to revisit "Zombieland", almost a decade since the movie made a wave when it was released in 2009. Giving an update on the development of the long-awaited sequel are none other than the screenwriting duo itself.

Speaking to Vulture, Wernick says, "We're going on the tenth anniversary of 'Zombieland'. 'Zombieland' came out October of 2009. We don't know what you get someone for their tenth anniversary, but it may be a 'Zombieland 2'."

Though he says "may be," Wernick gives hope that the sequel is coming in October 2019, just in time for the tenth anniversary of the first movie. "The hope is that we're shooting that thing early 2019 for an October of '19 release," he shares, before adding an important detail, "With the original cast, by the way."

Wernick refuses to share beyond that. "We are sitting on information that we can't entirely share at this moment," he claims. He goes on promising, "But we can just say we think fans of 'Zombieland' who have been hoping for a 'Zombieland 2', that we will grant their wish very, very soon."

"Zombieland", starring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin, follows a geeky college kid making his way through the zombie apocalypse, meeting three strangers along the way and together taking an extended road trip across the Southwestern United States in an attempt to find a sanctuary free from zombies.

The film was a critical and commercial success, grossing more than $60.8 million in 17 days and becoming the top-grossing zombie film in the United States. The record was previously held by 2004's "Dawn of the Dead", and "World War Z" took over the title in 2013. "Zombieland" went on to gross $102.4 million worldwide against its budget of $23.6 million.
