Double Standards Samantha Bee apologizes for 'unfiltered' slam on Ivanka Trump while accepting 'social change' award

By Stephen Sorace | Fox News

Newly notorious comedian Samantha Bee told a crowd in Los Angeles on Thursday that the media focus should shift from the “one bad word” she uttered to describe Ivanka Trump to the nation's treatment of immigrant children and families, a report said.

Press access was revoked hours before the Television Academy event, which honored Bee’s show, "Full Frontal," and six other programs as platforms for advancing social change, but IndieWire was able to report Bee’s speech.

“We spent the day wrestling with the repercussions of one bad word, when we all should have spent the day incensed that as a nation we are wrenching children from their parents and treating people legally seeking asylum as criminals,” Bee said at NeueHouse Hollywood. “If we are OK with that then really, who are we?”

Bee, 48, a former member of comedian Jon Stewart's "Daily Show" troupe on Comedy Central, was honored on the same day she apologized for calling Ivanka Trump a “feckless c---” during the opening monologue of her Wednesday show, Deadline reported.

Ivanka Trump was criticized for a photo she shared, showing her hugging her son, amid reports that the Office of Refugee Resettlement had lost track of 1,500 immigrant children in the last three months of 2017.

Bee admitted that while her show strives to view the world through an “unfiltered” lens, there are times when she “should probably have a filter.”

“You know, the thing is, our show is steeped in passion,” Bee told the audience. “Every week I strive to show the world as I see it, unfiltered. Sometimes I should probably have a filter. I accept that. I take it seriously when I get it right and I do take responsibility when I get it wrong.

“There is power in saying what you feel without apology,” Bee said. “OK, and sometimes you also have to apologize.”

The media was denied access to Thursday's ceremony itself, but reporters and photographers had access to the red carpet preceding the event. Bee, however, was a no-show, Entertainment Weekly reported.

An apparently sudden increase in the number of press attending the event forced the Television Academy “to limit access to tonight’s activities” just hours before the red carpet.

An academy rep told the Hollywood Reporter late Thursday afternoon that the press was no longer allowed into the reception “as a result of today’s events involving Samantha B.”

TBS, the network that airs “Full Frontal,” also issued an apology after Bee’s tweet: "Samantha Bee has taken the right action in apologizing for the vile and inappropriate language she used about Ivanka Trump last night. Those words should not have been aired. It was our mistake too, and we regret it."

The segment has since been removed from the show's YouTube page.

At least two advertisers so far have pulled sponsorship from Bee’s program.

The other shows honored Thursday were “Andi Mack,” “Daughters of Destiny,” “Forbidden: Undocumented & Queer in Rural America,” “LA 92,” “One Day at a Time” and “13 Reasons Why.”

Samantha Bee may have apologized but Kathy Griffin, Sally Field, other Hollywood liberals standing by her

By Tyler McCarthy | Fox News

Samantha Bee may have apologized for her vulgar insult about Ivanka Trump in her Wednesday monologue on “Full Frontal,” but many of her like-minded celebrity friends are standing by her side.

As previously reported, Bee opened her show with a monologue that capped off by showing a photo of Ivanka that had been lambasted by many critics last week showing her hugging her son. People felt the image was controversial given reports of the Office of Refugee Resettlement losing track of 1,500 immigrant children in the last three months of 2017.

Bee capped off her monologue by pleading with Ivanka to talk to her father about the situation and calling her a “feckless c---.”

The use of the expletive upset many fans, prompting an apology from Bee and TBS on social media the next day. However, the extreme backlash to the comments in the wake of ABC’s decision to cancel “Roseanne,” over Roseanne Barr's racist tweet, prompted many of Bee’s celebrity colleagues to double down on her remarks.

Kathy Griffin was among the first to back Bee, first urging her not to apologize and then commenting on the situation after she did.

“Please do not be hard on @iamsambee for apologizing. While I was hoping she wouldn’t, I know first hand what it’s like being put through the Trump wood chipper..what she’s going through right now is crazy. All for a bleeped word. Comics held to higher standards than the president,” Griffin wrote.

Sally Field took to Twitter -- and slammed Ivanka Trump herself.

“I like Samantha Bee a lot, but she is flat wrong to call Ivanka a c---,” she said. “C---s are powerful, beautiful, nurturing and honest.”

Field's tweet generated plenty of reaction on its own. Even CNN political analyst and Playboy Magazine correspondent Brian J. Karem called it the “best tweet of the day.” CNN did not respond to Fox News' request for comment.

Comedian Billy Eichner chimed in as well.

“Honestly I think Samantha Bee was being generous,” he wrote.

Filmmaker Michael Moore also gave his thoughts on the matter, comparing the outrage to what Roseanne Barr experienced, even going as far as to post a video of the monologue, which TBS removed from its official channel.

“Ha! The White House today, still not denouncing Roseanne’s racism, tries to confuse the issue by going after Samantha Bee’s brilliant rant against Ivanka last night,” he wrote, calling her a “truth-teller.”

“Love Simon” star Natasha Rothwell shared similar thoughts on the two comments as well.

“Equating expletives to racism suggests an ideology used to systematically subjugate people of color for hundreds of years is the same as a four letter word that the FCC finds ‘indecent.’ If you don’t see why that is dangerous you, too, are a feckless c---.”

Feminist attorney Lisa Bloom shared her thoughts on the difference between the use of the word and Barr’s racist comment.

“OK, but a white woman (Roseanne) invoking slavery-era racism about a black woman is miles away from a woman using the "c" word to insult another woman. Neither comic was 'kidding,' really. Sam's point was true: Ivanka has not helped immigrant kids. Roseanne's was a flat out lie.”

Actress Alyssa Milano noted that Barr previously used the same word to refer to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. She later retweeted a previously deleted tweet from Barr as proof with the caption, "Ah yes, here it is."

Barr, however, tweeted a message about the comparisons in which she expressed regret for her remarks once again.

“please don't compare me2 other people who have said horrible things. I only care about apologizing 4 the hurt I have unwittingly & stupidly caused. I humbly confess contrition & remorse. I failed2 correctly express myself, & caused pain2 ppl,” she wrote.

Bitch Kathy Griffin: 'Spineless' TBS forced Samantha Bee's apology for Ivanka Trump attack

By Douglas Ernst - The Washington Times

Comedian Kathy Griffin inserted herself into another anti-Trump firestorm on Thursday after one of her peers apologized for calling Ivanka Trump a “feckless c—t.”

The woman who broke down into tears after her May 2017 “beheading” anti-Trump art cost her numerous jobs — including work at CNN — now says TBS is “spineless” for its reaction to a recent broadcast of “Full Frontal.”

“You know, Ivanka, that’s a beautiful photo of you and your child, but let me just say, one mother to another, do something about your dad’s immigration practices, you feckless c—t,” Ms. Bee said Wednesday evening.

Public outcry over the remarks prompted one of the show’s advertisers, Autotrader, to pull its sponsorship.

“I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night,” Ms. Bee said in a statement released Thursday. “It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it.”

“Spineless. Support your talent TBS. Instead, you made her apologize,” Ms. Griffinresponded.

“Please do not be hard on @iamsambee for apologizing,” she added. “While I was hoping she wouldn’t, I know first hand what it’s like being put through the Trump wood chipper … what she’s going through right now is crazy. All for a bleeped word. Comics held to higher standards than the president.”

TBS issued its own statement saying Ms. Bee did the right thing by apologizing, although “those words should not have been aired. It was our mistake too, and we regret it.”

Here is what the issue is about and what she said. Perhaps I am tired, but I actually don't understand what her issue was - or the point she is trying to make? Why should Ivanka's personal Instagram be subject to current political issues. She's not a politician.

Also, far more importantly, colour is spelled incorrectly.
