It sounds like a real-life enactment of the Barenaked Ladies song "The Old Apartment" — with a twist.

A Florida man broke into his former home, threatened the new resident, and stole a pulled pork sandwich and energy drink from the refrigerator before running into the woods nearby, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Alex Sardinas, 35, of Tavernier apparently forced his way into the Florida Keys residence using a pocketknife, said deputies, who charged him with assault, burglary and theft.

The narrow, dead-end road, lined with a ramshackle collection of small block homes and apartments, juts into the wooded midsection of the peninsula near Dove Sound.

After breaking in, Sardinas began screaming and threatening to kill the new occupants because he was not allowed to live there anymore, a female resident told law enforcement.

The sheriff's office said Sardinas called them at midnight saying he needed to get his clothes from the home. He was later found walking along a nearby road about a few dozen yards from the scene of the crime, deputies said.
