Recommend a city in Southeastern USA?

    Hey friends

I知 going to Orlando in late October (fingers crossed for no storms) to meet with my cousins who are going to be there from Ireland for a couple weeks. We値l take their young kids to Disney a few days and all that shit.

Anyways, after that though my wife and I want to do a grown up trip somewhere outside Florida as we致e both spent plenty of time there, but never been to other neighbouring states. Somewhere with really good local food to try and some cool nightlife/music/culture ideally.

Maybe Nashville, New Orleans or Atlanta? I致e never been to any of those places.

    Any ideas or recommendations?

I would stay away from Atlanta. Some folks like South Carolina and their beaches..?

New Orleans and Atlanta never impressed me much... and parts of ATL have gotten sketchy - the nicer areas are out of the city. Love Nashville - that's a solid choice. I'm with Muddy, maybe Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach on the SC coast... DGX can give you detail about Savannah also.

I have been looking at Galveston, TX... never been but have heard good things. I also think you would really like Austin, TX... young hippie vibe, great food and well known music scene.
I wanted to be a Monk, but I never got the chants.

With the activities and possible cities you mentioned, it would be New Orleans hands down.
However, my idea of a good trip is to avoid spending time in any large metropolis and seeing as much of our beautiful country as possible.
So I would probably drive up to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park then over to Cherokee N.C. and get on the Blue Ridge Parkway. You could then get on I40 at Asheville to head over to Nashville if you so desired.

    ...but that's just me.

Awesome thanks for all the tips guys, I値l look into them all with the wifey and pick one.

Also holy shit are flights within the US ever cheap!! There are tons for around $100 or even less. Flights around Canada are extremely expensive by comparison.

Another opinion... I fucking hate Orlando. If I was stuck in that hellhole and wanted out, I'd go to the keys. Long drive, expensive, but well worth it.

    Just an option.

Savannah's a great place to live in, or at least it used to be, but you really have to spend a lot of time there looking around to find shit to do. The problem with Georgia is that there is shit to do, but it's all spread out. And Georgia's a huge fucking state. So if there's something specific you were hoping to do, you might have to drive long ass drives to one of the satellite towns of some of the cities to get to whatever it is you want to do. I would stay away from Atlanta. It has devolved since I lived there back in 97-98 and again in 00-01. Atlanta is a fucking dive. Personally, I always wanted to tour North Georgia and the mountains up there. But that's just me. You live near mountains, so it's probably no big deal to you.

I would agree with some of RBP's suggestions: Austin, Nashville. Hilton Head Island is more of a tourist trap. A lot of places are like that.

I had a change over in Charleston, South Carolina on the way home from my brother's place up in mainland NY several years ago when my nephew graduated from high school. I was kind of impressed for the few hours I was there. Nothing in particular stood out, I just thought it was a cool little city. There are supposedly lots of places in North and South Carolina that are cool to visit, but with the hurricane coming in a few days, it may be all laid to waste. Your best bet might be going to the Keys like RBP suggested, however, it is hurricane season so, beware.

Grif mentioned the Great Smoky Mountains and Asheville, North Carolina. It is gorgeous up there. Unreal. And it is just a hop skip and a jump to Nashville, Tennessee.

Key west is a pretty cool place to visit. If you're that far down, a day trip out to Dry Tortugas is well worth it.
The year we drove down there the wife couldn't understand why I insisted we be back in the Miami area by Thursday as we hardly ever have a set schedule.
I had booked a last minute weekend Bahamas cruise. The cabin was only about $200.00 each, but my bar tab Monday morning at checkout was $850.00.

The Blue Ridge mountains are really pretty in the fall - I went there, and saw N. Carolina, Virginia and D.C. which was a great trip --- might be a bit far north from FLA though.

That's where I am. We went canoeing down the Potomac River on a day off. Green gorges, fresh air

Just got back from our trip! Was in Orlando for a bit with family, took our two little cousins to Universal two days which was a blast. The rides and attractions there are great for all ages, wife had a butter beer from harry potter land, I just had regular beer

Went to Nashville after that, which was pretty cool. The women in Nashville.... wow, even my wife was noticing Had some unreal BBQ and Nashville Hot Chicken, drank beers and listened to live music, weather was unreal, walked all over the city. Just a cool place for a visit!

    Thanks for the recommendations again.
