Old School Things from your childhood

Saw a collection of old toys and it brought back some great hidden memories.

Post stuff you played with, foods you ate, things that you and your family used while growing up

*this was sold in the 50's and kids were encouraged to heat up actual glass pieces to 1000 degrees and shape them. We didn't have it at our house

I used to have some of these bridge building sets when I was a kid, I loved them.

I had a building set that consisted of square frames that had four way corner joining pieces and different kinds of panels depicting brick or stone that would fit into the squares. I can't remember the name and have never seen it since. The simple design allowed for huge buildings that could be built up or along the ground. And it looked cool too.

There were colored see-through panels that looked like glass and other rounded panels that gave it a real 70's cool design look.

My parents didn't have much money raising us three children. Yet I can remember always having games and toys.

I set this up in my room using fishing line tied to my dresser. It wasn't as complex as the diagram appears. My first flight simulator

These were called 'Poopatroopers'. There were later knock off versions but the real ones were flexible rubber and had different expressions.

We would throw them into the air for hours and sometimes paint them.

Not all of these had rubber band propellers. I probably bought at least 50 of these styrofoam gliders as they were cheap and always fun.

    My treasures...

I had this exact Hot Wheels track set up down to the hard plastic corners, loops, and yellow finish line flag.

I had the Vertibird helicopter and wore that thing out saving divers from rafts and picking up space capsules.

Evel Knieval stunt bike was heavy and well balanced. That thing would go so fast it could jump things and usually land upright. My little Evel action figure however met with a few accidents and eventually wouldn't hold onto the bike anymore. Art imitating life I guess

G.I. Joe's were huge with kids when I was growing up. I had the original version and also this guy with life-like hair and Kung-fu grip!

I also had The Six Million Dollar Man. He had a weird eye and mechanical bits showing in places under rubber skin you could roll back!
He was smaller than G.I. Joe and didn't last as long

    Weird stuff

This one triggered a whole bunch of lost memories. You mixed water with the supplied powder, then poured into molds. They would come out jelly-like and eventually harden and shrink. Then you would paint them and attach hair.

Foam that was also (maybe) soap you used in the bathtub.

Dump these rocks into water and then some chemical reaction would turn them into this.

I remember how this tube of fake blood tasted. It was kinda sweet and were never sure if we should be eating it

I didn't have either of these yet recall driving them often. That bottom one was the bomb and could really move and maneuver if you were a strong kid.

    Canadian Winter Toys

Krazy Karpets...they came rolled up and were just a thin piece of hard plastic that was like greased lightning on snow and ice
Number one cause of accidents on toboggan hills.

    Mini-skis

Hard plastic and even harder to get off if you were in trouble

    Super Slider Snow Skates

My cousin grew up on a farm in Strathmore and his Dad let him drive all of their snowmobiles from a young age. We would put these things on and tow the other guy behind the snowmobile with a 20 foot rope. We made a track and had snow jumps. Accidents were common wearing these death-shoes

I have foggy memories of getting similar transfer sets out of cereal (?)

Lots of scenarios where you could put portions of smaller guys behind hills etc and I remember the wax-like paper they came on.

    Parents had this dinner set.

    Mom made this chemical concoction.

I remember how the conditioner smelled (purple bottle).
