That's why they called it "dodgeball". You were supposed to dodge it.

What we did was there was the field separated by a center line that we couldn't cross. It separated the floor/ground into two fields, one for each team. There was a "jail" behind a team's field for the other team's players who got pegged, or who's peg attempt got caught (always aim below the knees to avoid getting caught and sent to jail). You could spring a jailed teammate by throwing the ball to them and them catching it in the air. They can then rejoin you in the field. Jailed teammates couldn't peg a field player, but they could pass you back the ball. Last field with players wins.

J|FFFF|FFFF|J <-- kinda looked like that. Just wider from top to bottom.

Oh man that sounds fun, and it actually brought back a memory I had totally forgot. We had a forest behind our school with a brick path running down the middle. We'd play big games of capture the flag, where if you were tagged in enemy territory on their side of the path trying to steal their flag, you had to go to jail. You could be freed by a teammate holding your arm and running you back to the path without them being caught. What a blast... I'd play that game tomorrow if I had enough friends to organize it
